JMU women lose to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 17, 2010  - Virginia Tech scored on its first shot of overtime and edged James Madison 3-2 in women's soccer Friday evening at Thompson Field.

The Hokies improved to 6-4-0 overall as they posted their fourth consecutive win and upped their home record to 4-0-0.  Tech, which was ranked in the top 25 earlier this season, was among the teams receiving votes in the NSCAA coaches poll this week.

JMU dropped to 3-4-0 with its third loss in a row.

Kelsey Billups put the game-winning goal into the net 5:18 into the sudden-victory overtime period.

Tech rallied after the Dukes took a 2-0 lead by scoring twice in the early going of the second half.

Dukes' senior Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) converted a penalty kick at 5:07 into the second half, and redshirt junior Jessica Barndt (Novi, Mich./Novi) added JMU's second goal just 1:41 later.

The Hokies got on the scoreboard when Ashley Manning scored off a pass from Kelly Conheeney in the 73rd minute and tied the match on a goal by Jazmine Reeves with 4:03 left in regulation.

Tech took 18 shots to seven for JMU.  Dukes' redshirt senior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) made four saves, and Hokies' goaltender Dayle Colpitts finished with three saves.
