First round play in the 2009 NCAA Men’s Soccer play was completed Thursday night at campus venues across the country.

There were no real upsets on the evening and most teams from major conferences advanced, although highly-ranked and once-beaten Monmouth of the Northeast Conference may have surprised some by defeating Big East power Connecticut on penalties after a scoreless draw through 110 minutes of play.
