Nation’s top players pick College Cup champ
With opinions abound on the future champion of the Women’s College Cup, we asked a few of the top players in the country to tell us who will win it all.
The result: they feel a lot like we do - only with much better insight.
Washington defender Hannah Greig: “I think Stanford will win it all. They have not lost all season and they have an unbelievable team. Especially Christen Press, who has been putting up record numbers this season. She is an unbelievable player who I have played against for four years. Boston College is also a great team but I want Stanford and the Pac-10 to win it.”

Minnesota forward/midfielder Katie Bethke: “Ohio State plays soccer as a team with a physical style. Defending wise, they tend to be the raging bull defenders that try to just run through players and push you off the ball - but this will be a problem for them against Notre Dame, who I have also played against this year. With Mel Henderson up top with the quickness that she has, one turn on their defenders and she will get through them with ease. Ohio State will have to generate a proper amount of offense to stay in the game, which I do not think will occur.
I have not played Stanford or BC, but with Press as such an attacker and with all the momentum Stanford has, it will be very tough to knock them out with only two games standing in their way of a NCAA Championship trophy. My Predicted championship game is Stanford vs. Notre Dame. Stanford will win it all.”
I know that Notre Dame will put up an incredible fight. Liz Tucker is one of my good friends from region 3 ODP as well, and she is coming off of an excellent performance at Oklahoma State. It will be interesting to see the momentum that she carries with her forward into their next game.”
Marquette(w) forward/midfielder Rachael Sloan: “I think Stanford has a great chance to win it all. They are an extremely driven team and they know exactly what they are playing for. They had a taste of winning it last year and I think that their successful season this year has shown that they want it back.”
