Marquee Match: In a matchup of two College Cup finalists from a year ago, the Wake Forest men made a strong statement with a 1-0 victory over the defending national champion Maryland Terrapins.

Zack Schilawski scored on a penalty kick in the sixth minute and the Demon Deacons held on to get the win at home. The win creates a three-team log jam in the ACC as Wake Forest, Maryland and North Carolina vie for positioning heading into next month’s conference tournament. Should be an interesting race down the stretch.

Shot Heard Round YouTube: If you haven’t seen or heard about last week’s amazing SMU men’s goal you’re obviously living in a cave. Ryan Rosenbaum fired a 95-yard dart through wind and rain that took a strong bounce over the head of Tulsa goalkeeper Andy Aguilar.

On the move: Keep your eyes on the NC State men. Winners of six of their last seven matches, the Wolfpack have cracked our top 20 ranking. NC State9m) won’t get much spotlight amidst the powerhouses in the ACC, but the program shouldn’t be taken lightly, and could be hot at just the right time.

Bump in the Road: The North Carolina women absorbed a couple of tough losses, falling to Florida State 3-2 before taking a 1-0 defeat to Miami (FL) just a few days later. In the ACC, defeats can pile up rather quickly, even for the strongest of programs.

On tap: The bracket has been set for the 10-team Big East Women’s Championship, which begins Thursday.
