CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Junior Bill Dworsky and freshman Enzo Martinez found the back of the net in the second half to lead No. 2 North Carolina past Georgetown, 2-1, Friday in a preseason exhibition match at Fetzer Field.

After a scoreless first half, Dworsky put the Tar Heels’ first chance after intermission away with an eight-yard header into the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 52:22 mark. Center back Brett King pressed forward and served a ball into the box that found a streaking Dworsky for the first goal of the night.

Nine minutes later, Martinez, whose 182 prep goals rank sixth all-time in U.S. history, extended the lead to 2-0 with a strike from 22 yards into the lower right corner. Fellow rookie Martin Murphy picked up an assist on the Tar Heels’ second goal of the evening, which came at 61:29.

Georgetown got on the board in the 66th minute when Andy Riemer took a pass from Seth C’deBaca, dribbled and scored from the 18 off the fingertips of UNC keeper Brooks Haggerty to trim the lead to 2-1.

From there, the Carolina defense clamped down and did not allow a shot until Haggerty stopped a Riemer blast with 1:33 remaining to seal the victory.

The Tar Heels finished the night with a 19-5 edge on the shot chart. Georgetown keeper Matthew Brutto made five saves to blank Carolina in the first half before giving way to Mark Wilber after the break.

Carolina held possession for the majority of the first half and outshot the Hoyas by an 11-1 margin. Cameron Brown and Kirk Urso led the push from the Tar Heel midfield with two shots on frame each in the opening period.

The Tar Heels play their second of three preseason exhibitions Sunday against VCU at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
