UC Irvine men beat Cal Poly

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 9 UC Irvine men's soccer team (10-1-1, 3-0) defeated Cal Poly 2-1 Saturday night in Big West Conference action at Anteater Stadium.
Cal Poly got on the board early as Junior Burgos dribbled down the middle of the field and found Tim White breaking on the left with White beating the keeper from the top of the box for a 1-0 Mustang lead in the 5th minute. Senior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) collected a ball inside the box and it went to junior Miguel Ibarra (Lancaster/Taft College) who passed it back to Walker who knocked it in for his seventh goal of the season. Senior Spencer Thompson (Ahwatukee, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) knocked the ball with his heal to junior Bello Alhassan (Ghana, West Africa/Arizona Western College) who kicked it inside the right post for the game-winning goal in the 88th minute.
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had four saves for UCI. Keeper Patrick McLain had two saves for the Mustangs.
The ‘Eaters and Mustangs face off again Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Big West play at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Opispo.
