UC Irvine men beat UC Riverside

Riverside, Calif. -- Amani Walker recorded his fourth game-winning goal of
the year in the second half as seventh-ranked UC Irvine beat UC Riverside,
2-1 at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium Wednesday evening.

The Anteaters, who topped the Highlanders for the sixth straight outing,
improved to 13-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the Big West.

UC Riverside (4-9-1, 1-5-0) jumped out to the 1-0 lead on a goal by Cesar
Diaz from Atanda Azrez and Tyler Wilson at 22:05. The Highlanders Jose
Diaz recieved a red card at 27:48 and the Anteaters capitalized. UCI
sophomore Zach Olow (Poway/HS)evened the game at 1-1 on a give and go in
the box from junior Brett Berman (Westlake Village/Westlake HS) at 37:58.

At 59:41 of the second half, Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker
HS)scored his fourth game-winning goal of the year, netting it from the
right side from 17 yards out. Walker's team-leading 10th goal of the
season was assisted by Berman and Miguel Ibarra(Lancaster/Taft College).
Ibarra leads the Big West Conference in assists with 10 and moved into a
tie with Shawn Bullock (1988) for second on the UCI season record list.
With a goal tonight, Walker moves into a tie for fourth in UCI career
goals (26) with Jon Spencer (1998-2001).

UCI controlled the attack registering a 23-7 shot advantage and 9-1 on
corners.

UCI goalkeeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas/Sierra Vista HS)did not record a
save, while UCR's Nick Goldreich had seven saves.

The conference's top two team will battle this Saturday (Oct. 30) at 8:00
p.m. in Anteater Stadium as No. 7 UC Irvine takes on No. 19 UC Santa
Barbara.
