UC Irvine men draw with Santa Barbara

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 7 UC Irvine men's soccer team (13-1-3, 6-0-2) tied No. 13 UC Santa Barbara Saturday night in Big West Conference action at Anteater Stadium. The ‘Eaters had nine shots in the match with three of them on net while the Gauchos had 10 shots, with three on net. Junior keeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had three saves while earning his 11th shutout of the season. Keeper Sam Hayden had three saves for the Guachos to earn a shutout. With the tie, UCI has clinched a top-two finish in the Big West Conference guaranteeing that the Anteaters will host a Big West Tournament semifinal match Wednesday, November 3rd at Anteater Stadium. UCI can clinch the Big West regular season title with a victory in either of their final two regular season matches. The ‘Eaters host Cal State Northridge Wednesday in Big West play at 7:00 p.m. at in their final regular season match at Anteater Stadium. UCI will honor seven seniors playing in their final regular season match at Anteater Stadium prior to the match.
