UC Irvine women fall to Washington

IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (7-2-1) lost 3-2 in overtime to Washington Friday night in non-conference play at Anteater Stadium.

The Huskies led 1-0 in the 22nd minute as a shot by Alex Webber was blocked by junior keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) and back out into the field of play where it rebounded off a UCI defender and into the net for an own goal. Sophomore Lexi Kopf (Sonora HS) crossed the ball into the box to freshman Mar Rodriguez (Santa Ana/Valley HS) who knocked it in to tie the match at 1-1 in the 55th minute. In the 57th minute, sophomore Nikki Forrest (Upland HS) crossed the ball into the box where she found freshman Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) who passed it off to Kopf who gave UCI a 2-1 lead. Veronica Perez took a breakaway down the field with de Seriere out of the box and got the ball into the net in the 88th minute sending the match into overtime. In overtime, Nikki Murray launched a ball from 35 yards out just over the hands of the keeper for 3-2 Washington win at the 91:11 mark.

de Seriere had six saves in the match for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Kari Davidson had two saves for the Huskies.

The ‘Eaters will head to San Diego Sunday to face San Diego State at 2:30 p.m. in non-conference play at the SDSU Sports Deck.
