Zips and Cardinal remain atop Tournament rankings

The Akron Zips men and the Stanford Cardinal women retain their #1 rankings in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 48 and 64 National Ranking, while Georgia defender Natalie Farley and Wake Forest’s Zach Schilawski are the women’s and men’s Player of the Week for the week ending October 3.

The rankings are a running effort to project the postseason NCAA Tournament Field.

Paul Ratcliffe’s Stanford women are now 12-0-0 after an impressive 6-2 win over Santa Clara. Florida State and Portland each move up a spot in the women’s poll while North Carolina drops to #4 after its first loss of the season on Sunday to Virginia Tech. Big movers in the ranking this week include SEC teams LSU (#12) and Georgia (#13), plus Mountain West power BYU (#9)

Two of the Stanford players, Christen Press and Kelley O’Hara, are in our Team of the Week following identical 2-goal, 1-assist performances in the Cardinal win over the Broncos. But Georgia’s Natalie Farley gets the nod for Player of the Week for her role in two shutout wins for Patrick Baker’s Bulldogs. Farley went 180 minutes overall and added a game-winning goal in the win over Vanderbilt.

On the men’s side, Caleb Porter’s Akron program remains undefeated at 9-0-0 after beating Ohio State and Florida Atlantic by identical 3-0 scorelines. ACC powers Maryland and Wake Forest each take a small drop in the men’s ranking after surprise non-conference losses, but Wake’s Zach Schilawski earned Player of the Week honors for his hat trick in the Deacs’ bounceback win over Virginia Tech.
