After a scoreless regulation, Episcopal fell behind 1-0 in overtime before rallying for a 2-1 win over John Cooper for the program’s fourth straight Southwest Preparatory Conference title. Division I prospect Victor Velasco and Juan Rodriguez combined for 50 goals on the season. The team, made up from several members of the Houstonians club title-winning team, outscored its opponents 73-3 on the season with two of the goals allowed coming on set pieces. Episcopal’s key victory was a 1-0 win over FAB 50 Central Catholic the week after Central Catholic beat a pair of Top 25 teams from California.

Sixteen players have scored goals for the Dragons this year, helping to the team’s undefeated start through 15 matches.

NOTES: Montverde Academy's bid for a ninth straight undefeated season came up short due to one December defeat, ending its national record undefeated run at 185 matches. The Eagles, however, defeated FAB 50-ranked Tampa Jesuit along with three other district champions and two district runners-up. The team featured goalkeeper Weston King (Louisville), Bernardo Gracindo (Northeastern), Bryan Moreira (Indianapolis), Bruno De Nez, Ricardo Paiva, Pedro Melo, Xavier Laneuville, Frederico Tramonina and Ricardo Rego.

Manuel Quiroz scored three goals as Sunnyside defeated Independence 4-2 to advance to this week’s state final. The senior has a team-best 38 goals this season.

Omar Arrieta's first-half header gave Cathedral a lead which it held for a 1-0 victory over Mater Dei in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals. The Phantoms next face San Clemente for the title.

Montgomery scored twice in the first two minutes to set the tone in the team’s 6-0 section quarterfinal win over Maria Carrillo. Oswaldo Rojas finished with two goals.

Berkeley remains on course for a possible showdown with De La Salle after edging Dublin 2-1 in overtime last week in a section quarterfinal. Kinlay Watkins and Kalani Kossa-Rienzi scored for Berkeley.

Brophy edged Chaparral 1-0 to reach the Arizona 6A state state final. Interestingly, Brophy and Hamilton started the year ranked 1-2 in Arizona by TopDrawerSoccer and now they will meet in the 6A final to finish the season.
21 Hamilton Chandler, AZ 19-3-0
Channing Chasten and Jesse Maldanado scored the goals as Hamilton upended Desert Vista 2-1 in the Arizona 6A state semifinals. The win sends the Huskies into a clash with Brophy Prep for the title.
22 Huntington Beach Edison Huntington Beach, CA 16-6-5*
After knocking off top-seeded Loyola in the section quarterfinals, Edison's postseason run ended with a 3-2 overtime loss to San Clemente. After a rocky start, Edison went 9-1-1 after the New Year before falling to San Clement.

Loyola was upset by Edison in the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals, falling 2-1 in the 98th minute of overtime.

The Orange Coast league champs, which opened the season with a loss to Loyola, upset favored Servite in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs before losing to San Clemente in the quarterfinals. Senior Edgar Canela led the team in goals and assists.

Servite's postseason ended with a loss to Santa Ana in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. The Friars had a strong season that included a league title, a runner-up finish to Cathedral in the Lotto Sport Western Showcase, a 2-0-1 showing at the Santa Barbara College Showcase and a runner-up finish to Hamilton (Ariz.) at the adidas West Coast Showcase.
