Four key signing classes in women’s soccer
March 11, 2011

Today’s peek at four college soccer signing classes takes us to the women’s side of things.

New Mexico(w)

Signees: Elizabeth Hemminger (Rio Vista FC), Angela Noelle Lee, Alexis Leyba (Laguna Hills Eclipse), Brianna Martinez, Madisyn Olguin (Nomads SC), Madison Shipherd, Amelia Statkus, Cassandra Ulrich (New Mexico Rush) Natalie Zeenni (Real So Cal)
Skinny: The Lobos acquired some versatile players here. Lee is a five-time New Mexico State Cup champion who can play in the midfielder or on the defense. Martinez and Shipherd bring strong offensive-minded reputations that should fit in well with the defending Mountain West Conference champion Lobos.

St. Bonaventure(w)

Signees: Brittany Charles (Internationals SC), Molly Curry (Empire United Soccer), Alicia Elwell (Pittsgrove SC Pride), Giancarla Trevisan (Slammers FC)
Skinny: Coach Manoj Khettry and his staff set out to find dynamic attacking players who could replace contributors from his graduating class. Khettry was able to do just that beginning with Curry, a tremendous athlete who can hurt an opposing defense from multiple places on the field. Charles and Elwell are also formidable while Trevisan is already being called the fastest player in the conference.

“We are excited about the quality and potential of this class,” Khettry told St. Bonaventure’s website. “All of these young ladies will come in and vie for playing time right away, either as forwards, attacking midfielders or wide in midfield.”

Washington(w)

Signees: Jaclyn Softli (Crossfire Premier), Megan Kufeld (Mustang), Sami Page (Camarillo Eagles), Chelsea Archer (Bay Oaks), Christina Archer (Bay Oaks)
Skinny: Kufeld is our No. 73 ranked 2011 player and has enjoyed a great club soccer career. She will be majorly challenged at the next level in arguably the top college conference in the country. Page is a speedy defender, while Softli is already pretty familiar with the UW program, having played with four current Huskies and learning under Washington assistant Jim Thomas. Chelsea and Christina are a twin pair of attackers.

Jacksonville(w)

Signees: Jessica Cataldo Ramirez (Camarillo Eagles), Dana Larocque (Clearwater Chargers), Miranda Fyfe (Team Boca), Kaitlyn Bassett (Colorado Rush), Julia Burton (Halifax County United)
Skinny: Coming off a highly successful season in which they finished second in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Dolphins have added some talented new faces. Bassett is a four-time state champion with Colorado Rush, while Julia Burton is an international player who brings some great experience from Canada’s national level.
