Hartford Tops Women’s Soccer
Aaliyah Ingram came off the bench to score twice and Julia Carr added a goal and an assist as defending America East Regular Season Champion Hartford topped Siena Women’s Soccer 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Connecticut. Senior captain Kirby O’Keefe scored for the Saints.
Hartford held a 15-5 edge in shots and 6-2 advantage in corners. It was a quick turnaround for the Saints (0-1-1) which battled Holy Cross for 110 minutes to a 3-3 tie Friday in Worcester, while the Hawks were making their season debut on home turf.
For the second straight game to start the season, the Saints scored in the 89th minute. Junior back Tara Sobierajski dished out her second assist in as many games, crossing a pass from the left to O’Keefe who finished inside the right post.
But this time it would not be enough to overcome Hartford, which netted the first four goals. The Hawks scored twice in the final 12 minutes of the opening stanza to take a 2-0 lead at the break on goals from Carr (34’) and Ingram (44’). They then added insurance tallies in the second half from Ingram (77’) and Eric Primovic (88’).
Senior Liz Rogan made six saves in goal for the Saints, while her counterpart Jessica Jurg made one stop for Hartford.
Siena concludes its season opening three-game road trip Friday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Cornell, before returning to the Capital Region for their home opener Sunday at 1 p.m. against defending America East Tournament Champion New Hampshire at Siena Field.
