August 30, 2013

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team dropped to 0-3 this season after a 2-0 loss at Liberty on Friday in Lynchburg, Va. The Liberty Lady Flames move to 1-1 on the season.

The Lady Monarchs fired the first shot of the game in the fifth minute, when freshman Carly Goldsborough’s attempt was blocked. Liberty’s defense quickly made adjustments, as Old Dominion would be limited to just one shot for the rest of the game.

Going into halftime, ODU’s defense still had the clean sheet in tact. Lady Monarch freshman keeper Meredith Lenox performed brilliantly in the first 45 minutes, saving three shots.

In the 70th minute of play, Liberty’s Megan Warner was able to find the back of the net for the first time this season from just inside the box off a Alanna Dunkle assist.

The Lady Flames would add a second and final goal in the closing stages of the game, as Crystal Elmers chipped the ball into the goal from 13 yards out. Elmers’ goal was assisted by Alanna Dunkle; giving Dunkle her second assist of the game. The goal was the first on the season for Elmers.

Lenox ended up with four saves for the match. Liberty out-shot the Lady Monarchs 15-2 and led the corner kick count 4-1.
