Men’s college soccer top 25: Sept. 8-14
It was a weird week in men’s college soccer. Former No. 1 UCLA was bounced from the rank of the unbeatens on Friday in a 2-1 overtime defeat to American. Pac-12 rival Washington quickly followed suit with an overtime loss to St. Mary's (CA) on Sunday. ACC powerhouse Virginia also dropped from the land of perfect records with a 0-1 loss to Tulsa on Friday.
The upset filled weekend leaves only a handful of previously ranked teams remaining in the perfect record column. Among the teams to start the season in the TDS Top 25, UC Irvine and Delaware are the only ones that remain without a loss or draw through two weekends of play.
With all of the uncertainty, the third week of the TDS Top 25 highlights some change at the top. UCLA drops down to No. 2 in the rankings as Notre Dame retakes the top spot following a big win over Dartmouth. The Bruins victory over New Mexico on Sunday highlighted the quality of the team in response to the loss on Friday against a quality opponent.
Georgetown jumps into the top three after wins over Harvard and Wisconsin. New Mexico and North Carolina round out the top five for week three.
Creighton made the biggest jump in the standings as the Jays flew into the No. 7 spot after checking in at No. 17 last week. The Jays are 4-0 on the season and have yet to concede a goal on the campaign.
