Rams drop #Seawolves 3-0

Kingston, R.I. - Matt Sykes' two second half goals added to a Ryan Oakley first half tally to lead Rhode Island (4-3-1) over Stony Brook (1-5-1) 3-0 on Saturday night.

Goal Recaps
  • Two of the three Rams goals came from dead balls. Oakley ignited the scoring in the 25th minute by beating redshirt freshman goalkeeper Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) with a free kick from 25 yards out.
  • Sykes scored his first of the night in the 48th minute capitalizing on a Seawolves turnover in the midfield to beat McMahon. 
  • Sykes got on the board again in the 82nd minute converting on a penalty kick.
Notes
  • Rhode Island outshot Stony Brook 19-11 and held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary), Jorge Torres (Miami, Fla.), and Fernando Wadskier (Caracas, Venezuela) all registered two shots. Fritz paced the team with two shots on goal.
  • McMahon made four saves in the loss.
Up Next
The Seawolves stay on the road for a 7 p.m. match against Sacred Heart on Thursday, Sep. 23. Stony Brook has traditionally fared well against the NEC foe, holding an 11-3 all-time record over the Pioneers. They defeated Sacred Heart 2-0 in last season's season opener. Fritz and Favio Sbarra (Caracas, Venezuela) were the goal scorers.
