TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team continued its hot NEC start with a 1-0 victory Friday night at a chilly University Stadium. With the victory, the Knights improve to 6-4-2 (3-0-1 NEC) on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 5-6-0 (1-3-0 NEC) overall.

FDU scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute as senior Antony Moore crossed the ball from outside the right side of the box, which was then flicked by senior Jack McVey to freshman Yusuf Hamza, who found the back of the net for his first career goal.

The Knights dominated the entire match, outshooting Sacred Heart 21-3, which included an 8-0 advantage over the first 45 minutes. The Pioneers did not record their first shot on goal until the 67th minute on a free kick from approximately 35 yards out, which was saved by junior goalkeeper Jacob Lissek.

FDU also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Lissek made two saves for the match, while Sacred Heart goalkeeper Tucker Hackett recorded eight saves. Lissek is now 6-2-2 in goal on the season and recorded his third clean sheet of the year and has not allowed a goal in two of the last three matches. He now has 14 career shutouts to move into a tie for fifth place on the all-time list.

“I am very impressed with the maturity we showed tonight on both ends of the ball,” Head Coach Seth Roland said. “We defended with a lot of poise and created a number of opportunities. We were just unlucky that we did not finish one or two more. It was a very good overall team effort.

“Looking forward to Sunday’s match we have a big challenge going up to Central Connecticut State and competing against arguably our most talented opponent in the conference,” Roland said. “Hopefully, we can keep going.”

The Knights will return to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. kickoff at Central Connecticut State in New Britain, Conn. The Blue Devils were 3-2 winners tonight at St. Francis NY to improve to 5-5-2 (3-0-1 NEC) on the season.
