Men's Soccer Draws with Lafayette 0-0

EASTON, PA – NJIT men's soccer tied non-conference opponent Lafayette 0-0 in double overtime on Wednesday at Oaks Stadium.

The Highlanders (5-4-3) outshot the Leopards (6-6-1) 13-9.

NJIT had several chances in the first half to score a goal.

Defenders Jonathan Onyeaka and Victor Kausch started the Highlanders scoring opportunities.

Kausch got his head on a ball off a corner that was saved by Leopard keeper Brian Ehrlich. Moments later Onyeaka received the same opportunity off another corner kick, but was denied on the goal line by Lafayette defenders.

Onyeaka collected a game-high four shots, two of them coming on goal and close goals for NJIT.

NJIT had seven corner attempts in the first half alone, and tallied 10 in the game.

In the second half Rene White had the Highlanders first opportunity getting a shot off inside the box that was saved by Ehrlich.

The Leopards had their chances in the second half too. Lafayette received their best opportunity off a free kick right inside the box that was cleared off the goal line by Highlander defender Phillip Costa.

Andy Alvarez had the best chance for NJIT when his shot from 25 yards out hit the cross bar.

The Leopards and Highlanders ended regulation with a 0-0 tie, and were also tied in shots with nine.

In the first overtime Andrew Nino, received a ball in the box and was able to get a shot off on the ground but it was saved again by Ehrlich.

Mamadou Guirassy had a last second chance in the end of the first overtime when he got a shot off the ground, but Ehrlich was there again to record the save.

The Highlanders used their last chance with 10 seconds remaining in the second overtime trying to convert a Hail Mary free kick, which was once again trumped by Ehrlich.

Playing the entire 110 minutes of double overtme, Leopard Ehrlich ended the game with seven saves while NJIT keeper Victor Pujades tallied two.

The Highlanders will head to Spartanburg, SC next to take on ASUN Conference opponent USC Upstate on October 15 for a 2pm start.
