ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior forward Jamie Raepple scored with 4.3 seconds remaining in the contest to propel the Niagara women's soccer team past the Cornell Big Red, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The game-winning goal was set up when sophomore Catherine Meyer took on a Big Red (0-9) defender one-on-one before crossing the ball for the waiting Raepple who headed it past Cornell keeper Tori  Christ into the upper-corner.

"I'm happy with the result," head coach Peter Veltri said.  "We deserved the win.  I thought we did a good job of creating opportunities today, and I was especially happy with the fact that we played 90 min hard, and won it in regulation time.  Both goals today came from great build ups.  At times we played some really good soccer today."

Meyer also scored the Purple Eagles (5-4-0) lone goal, which was her second of the season.

Neither team had the upper hand in the first half, as the Big Red held a slim 9-8 edge in shots.  However NU was only able to put two shots on target compared to five from Cornell, but a strong effort from freshman keeper Claire Feiertag kept the game scoreless.

Freshman midfielder Kori Thorne was especially dangerous over the opening 45 minutes of play, recording three shots.

The second-half saw much of the same, but the Purple Eagles finally broke through the scoreless contest at 66:20.  Senior Michaela DiFazio played a pass to Meyer who fired a shot from 12-yards out to find the back of the net to give NU the lead.

The Big Red found the equalizer in the 77th minute off the foot of junior forward Alysse Godino that was assisted by junior Rachel Nichols.

Niagara finished the game with a 17-15 advantage in shots.

Feiertag made a season-high eight saves against the Big Red for her fifth win of the season.

The Purple Eagles return to Monteagle Ridge next weekend to kick start conference play.  Niagara plays Siena on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. before battle Marist on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
