Tulsa Dominates Oral Roberts, 3-0

September 16, 2016

The Tulsa women’s soccer team dominated crosstown rival Oral Roberts, 3-0, on Friday night in the Spectrum Cup at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  TU moved to 4-4-1 on the season, while ORU fell to 4-5 overall.

“We’re very excited about the outcome,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said.  “We were much better in the second half.  We’ve always been a possession-oriented team and I didn’t think we did a good job of keeping possession in the first half.  The second half was better, the intensity was better and I’m very proud of the shutout.”

The first 45 minutes ticked off the clock scoreless, but the Golden Hurricane came out fired up in the second half as Annabeth Fouts put TU on the board in the 49th minute off a free kick taken by Tana Dake.

Rachel Thun gave Tulsa a two-goal cushion in the 75th minute as she punched in a score from eight yards out off a pass from Dake, and then in the 87th minute Alzbeta Chlumova made it 3-0 as she scored off a pass from Thun.

With her assist, Thun took sole possession of TU’s career record for assists with 20.

Tulsa had a 13-9 lead in shots, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal, while ORU had a 3-2 lead in corner kicks.

Thun had a team-best four shots while McKenzi McAdams attempted two shots and seven others had one attempt.  Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up two saves and earned the shutout.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 18 against Ole Miss.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
