Women's Soccer Blanked By Fairfield, 2-1
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Niagara women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to conference foes the Fairfield Stags on Friday evening.
"We did not play well tonight," head coach Peter Veltri said. "It was by far our worst performance of the year. The only positive was the play of our back four. They did a great job of keeping it close to the end."
The Stags (6-3-2; 3-0-0) wasted no time jumping out to the early lead, as forward Shannon Fay tallied her third goal of the season less than six minutes into the contest. Forward Shannon Fay gave Fairfield the 1-0 edge when she headed in a corner from forward Carly Beyar past Niagara (6-6-0; 1-2-0 MAAC) goalkeeper Claire Feiertag.
The teams headed into intermission with Fairfield holding a 13-1 advantage in shots.
Nikki Stanton solidified the victory for Fairfield with an 83rd minute tally.
Feiertag wrapped up the game tying her season-high eight saves.
Niagara travels to New Rochelle, N.Y. on Sunday, Oct. 7 to battle the Siena Saints at 1 p.m.
