The 2012-13 Development Academy regular season wrapped up on Saturday with the final fixtures of the campaign. Playoff pools were announced on Monday and the action will kick off on June 24 at FC Dallas Park.

The last weekend of the season did offer some drama, as teams fought for the final playoff spots.

Revolution Empire U16 defeated BW Gottschee 1-0 on Saturday to move into the final playoff spot and knock New England Revolution out of the postseason and into the Showcase event next week. Empire played the role of spoiler in the U18 game, as BW Gottschee needed to secure three points to grab the final Wildcard spot in that division. Empire held on for a 2-2 draw and both clubs will be in the Showcase Event. Strikers FC (Irvine, California) gained the last spot into the U18 playoffs with the result.

Central Conference:

Trailing 2-0 heading into the second half, Chicago Fire U18 did not look like it was going to close out its regular season on a high note. However, a late offensive push helped Fire top Crew Soccer Academy Wolves 3-2 on Wednesday. Louis Bennett scored just past the midway point of the half, which cut the lead in half. Jeffrey Farina and Ricardo Aldape scored in the dying moments to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for Fire, which finished in the seventh Wildcard spot. Wolves had already been guaranteed a spot in the Showcase event prior to the contest.

The Dallas Derby on Thursday ended on level terms across the board when Solar Chelsea SC and Dallas Texans played to draws in both games. Solar U18 struck first in the opening game when U18 Men’s National Team defender Trevor Haberkorn opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Texans responded via an Adrian Velasquez goal midway through the second half. Texans finished the season in the third Wildcard spot. Solar is the 13th seed overall after finishing second in the conference.

In the young game, Dallas Texans’ Jonathan Ramirez opened the scoring in the 26th minute with his second goal of the season. Toryima Asom and Bryson Asher responded for Solar Chelsea SC U16, which looked well on its way to taking all three points. However, Texans’ Andrew Munoz nabbed the game-tying strike in stoppage time and the teams split the points. Solar remained in the eighth spot overall in the standings following the result, Texans will be competing in the Showcase event next week.

Shattuck-Saint Mary’s Soccer Academy U18 played to a 0-0 draw against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri on Friday in a matchup of two playoff-bound teams. Both teams kept hold of their spots in the playoff standings at five and 29, respectively. The U16 teams also played to a draw with the teams settling on a 1-1 score. Luke Haakenson scored the opener for SSM, but Sam Scoles nabbed the late equalizer for Scott Gallagher Missouri.
