Albertson upsets No. 1 at U13

Albertson SC 2001 began the season with a 2-5-2 record, but have been on a 5-0-1 run since the beginning of November.  The turnaround continued through the first weeks of April, where the Long Island based squad handed New York Red Bulls its first loss of the season. Albertson also beat No. 19 Soccer Association of Columbia at the end of March to enter our rankings at No. 20.

Another team really stepping up its game for the spring season is new No. 6 San Diego Surf Academy Select. After concluding the fall’s Southern California Developmental Soccer League season third in the south division (behind No. 12 West Coast FC Kirsch and No. 2 Pateadores IER), Surf faced a plethora of our ranked teams in Cal South National Cup play as well as at Dallas Cup, and triumphed over nearly all of them on its way to a runner up finish at National Cup (to Pateadores) and a Dallas Cup championship crown. The run included wins over two top tens in No. 7 Cedar Stars Academy and now No. 9 FC Golden State PDA 02.

Southern Charm at U14

Primarily Charleston-based South Carolina United Battery suffered just its second loss of the season in March, to now No. 25 Capital Area Railhawks, but followed that defeat with four straight wins against conference opponents to lift its record to 13-2-3 overall and its ranking to No. 10 in the Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25.

Tampa Bay United climbs three spots to No. 22 after securing three wins since our last update, extending its record to 15-4-3. TBU boasts two of the top goal scorers in the Development Academy in Andres Ojeda (26 goals) and Juan Soto (17 goals).

Ohio Premiers at U15

Following a successful start to the spring season, last year’s Region II semifinalist Ohio Premier Green I enters the rankings this month at No. 25. OP was runner-up to No. 1 United FA at the Disney Showcase in December, and has started the spring with a trip to Dallas Cup finishing second in group play to Angeles Soccer Elite from Mexico. In Midwest Regional League play, OP already defeated No. 6 Sporting KC Academy, and currently leads its division, although there is a lot of the season left to play.

Next Thursday: U13, U14, and U15 Girls

Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
