Surf’s up at U13

The first of the spring’s USYS state cups is in the books, and San Diego Surf swept the field in Southern California to win the Cal South National Cup, giving up a mere two goals in the process. Head-to-head wins against No. 4 Arsenal Pre-ECNL and No. 6 So Cal Blues Baker coupled with top tier finishes in both the fall SCDSL season and the spring California Regional League allows Surf to climb to No. 2.

Greensboro United Navy enters the rankings this month at No. 25 on the heels of a third place finish in the USYS Southern Premier League East North division. But the main result that cannot be overlooked for this team was its trip to Jefferson Cup just last weekend, where Greensboro defeated No. 7 OP Fire Red and No. 12 HMMS Impact Eagle FC in group play, then snatched the tournament title from No. 10 GSA Pre-ECNL by a 3-1 score.

National League wraps, ECNL heats up at U14

New England FC Elite dips to No. 2 this month after a less than perfect weekend at its home club tournament, but the New England NPL spring season begins in earnest April 2, so there are points to be had to climb back to the top.

Cincinnati United Premier CUP Gold was the only team to run the table during the 2016 USYS National League season, finishing with 24 goals for, 0 goals against and a perfect 7-0-0 record to climb eight spots to No. 17.

Two teams earned conference wins in ECNL spring play to climb in the Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25. Ohio Premier climbs three spots to No. 12 after beating two inter-divisional opponents in FC Virginia and McLean to extend its record to 12-2-2. Washington Premier earned four wins in the Northwest Conference Mountain Division, remaining perfect on the season, climbing three spots to No. 16.

Scorpions debut, PDA climbs at U15

FC Boston Scorpions has started the spring season on the right foot, adding four wins to its record for 8-1-1 overall and a No. 25 ranking.

PDA ECNL has a long way to go before its regular season concludes, having played just five matches on the season to date. But with a 5-0 record and a 10-1 goal differential, PDA takes the top spot in the Northeast Conference Metro Division and a No. 12 ranking in the Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25.

Next Week: U16, U17 and U18 Boys update

Grande Sports TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
