McBride gets rough in earning red card
June 27, 2010
GREENSBORO, North Carolina – The Baltimore Bays looked good. Indiana United looked better.

In fact, late in the second-half of Indiana’s breezy 3-0 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday, members of their audience started to ask the referees how much time was remaining.

When it’s 90 degrees and your team is sleepwalking through a victory, such things are important.

elite boys youth club soccer playersFC Milwaukee (left) and Clearwater are both competing for a place in finals week.
Day two of the U.S. Development Academy Playoffs was all-important, and here are all the results of the U17/U18 division which took the field for the first time for their opening round of matches.

GROUP A
Derby County Wolves 4, PA Classics 1
New York Red Bulls 3, Greensboro Youth Soccer 2
Best players: Derby County midfielder TJ Van Slooten; NY Red Bulls M Brandon Adler; NY Red Bulls F John Agudelo
Notes: The Wolves fell down early when PA Classics Ryan Comiskey then unleashed their embarrassment of riches that includes Soony Saad, Jordan Tyler and Reed Losee. Van Slooten slipped in for a couple goals to lead the way.

GROUP B

Dallas Texans 3, LAFC Chelsea 2
Crew Soccer Academy 1, Crossfire Premier 1

GROUP C
FC Dallas 3, Clearwater Chargers 2
LA Galaxy 2, FC Greater Boston 2
Best player: FC Dallas D Giovanni Gomez
Notes: Gomez scored in the 82nd and 85th minute – collapsing to the blazing hot pitch after scoring his second goal - to give his team the dramatic win as Dallas formed a dog-pile at midfield.

FC Dallas leading scorer Ruben Luna was ineligible to play after getting a red card at the Spring Showcase in Sarasota … Clearwater defender Anthony Baumann picked up a red card late after taking out FC Dallas midfielder Victor Ulloa.

GROUP D
Houston Dynamo 2, Colorado Rush AJ Auxerre 1
CASL Chelsea FC Academy 1, D.C. United 1
Best players: Colorado Rush M Abdoulie Jatta; D.C. United F Iyassu Bekele; D.C. United GK Nial Krach
Notes: CASL had a man advantage for the final 10 or so minutes of the game when D.C. defender Kevin McBride crossed the line on CASL’s Charles Root. It was a testament to D.C. keeper Nial Krach, who made two great punch saves in the last second, that the game remained in a 1-1 tie.

GROUP E
Real So Cal 2, Washington Premier 0
Match Fit Chelsea 2, Sockers FC 1
Notes: Washington Premier had a very lackluster performance. Errant punts, missed assignments and a general look of disinterest at times allowed Real So Cal to cruise.

GROUP F
Indiana United Academy 3, New England Revolution 0
Concorde Fire 3, Lonestar Aztex Academy 2
Best players: Indiana United M Nikita Kotlov; Concorde Fire F Malcom Miller
Notes: Harrison Petts misfired on an open shot after a great run and it still didn’t matter for defending national champion Indiana United … that’s the most interesting tidbit I could come up with in what was a snoozer.

GROUP G
Baltimore Bays Chelsea 4, FC Westchester 1
Chicago Fire 2, Texas SC DTH 2
Best players: Chicago Fire F Patrick Doody; Baltimore Bays Mamadou Kansaye
Notes: The Mid-Atlantic Division winning Bays scored two late goals to put the match out of reach. Had they finished a little better, they could have easily scored seven.

GROUP H
IMG Soccer 1, FC Milwaukee 1
Vardar 2, California Development Academy 1
