The TeamRank National Championship is a unique rankings setup that only includes team performance from the current season. It begins with events in August and ends with final events in July, at which point a new competition begins and the slate is again wiped clean. Each ranking is only for that August to July season.

In just a few years, New Mexico Rush has risen to become a dominant force, and currently enjoys being one of the top U17 Boys teams in the Rocky Mountain and Southwest TeamRank.

“They are a talented bunch. We have always been successful at the state level, but hadn’t had much exposure on the regional side,” Head Coach Greg Heileman said. “The first thing we did was to get them out to some of those events. After some exposure, they worked hard at their game, and can now compete against those guys.”

Part of the success for New Mexico Rush has been increasing the size of the team. Starting with 14 or 15 players, Heilman grew the team’s player depth to 20 strong.

Players like Justin Schmidt, Deven Mason, and forward Isaiah Madrid have contributed to the versatility of the squad, allowing them to play a technical style of soccer.

“We really stress possession oriented soccer, try to knock the ball around” said Heilman.

New Mexico Rush now has three games left in the U.S. Youth Soccer National League, and hopes to receive a bye to the national championship finals. It will also be competing in the State Cup, Far West Regional League, and the Western College Development Association.

Other squads in the boys’ Rocky Mountain and Southwest TeamRank are the U13 Sparta United, U14 Manchester United, U15 Arcadia Scottsdale United SC, U16 La Roca Premier, U17 Sereno SC, and U18 Sereno SC.

On the girls’ side the teams in the top spot are: U13, U14, and U16 Real Colorado, U15 Sereno SC, U17 Boulder Force, and U18 Colorado Rush.
