U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team head coach Mark Carr has named 28 players to the roster for a training camp running from July 12-22 at the new U.S. Soccer National Development Center in Kansas City, Kansas. The camp marks the first for a U.S. Women’s National Team at the state-of-the-art facility that opened in January.

This is the USA’s first event since winning the 2018 Concacaf U-17 Women’s Championship that was completed in early June in Bradenton, Florida, and won by the USA.

Carr called just 10 players from the team that helped the USA qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, to be held in Uruguay in November. Defender Kate Wiesner suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the LAFC Slammers during the U-18/U-19 Development Academy Championship Game and has been ruled out of the World Cup.

This camp gives Carr the chance to see some players who have been on previous camp rosters as well as to evaluate a group of new players. The goal is to continue providing opportunities in the lead-up to the World Cup.

“Obviously, we are very excited to be at the NDC in Kansas City,” said Carr. “It will be inspiring for our young players, and it will set the standard as we start to build and prepare for the U-17 FIFA World Cup. After qualifying, we wanted to make sure that we looked at the whole U-17 WNT pool again and reward top performers in both the Development Academy and in our younger Girls’ National Teams. We’ve evaluated everyone individually and determined which players needed more programming and who needed a bit of a break. It has been an intensive period for all National Team players coming off the club season and World Cup qualifying, and with the injuries we’ve suffered and the schedule ahead, it’s important to open up the pool now, and then narrow it once again as we get closer to the World Cup.”

The cut-off date to be eligible for the U-17 Women’s World Cup is players born on or after Jan. 1, 2001. For this roster, Carr chose 20 players born in 2001 but also included five players born in 2002 and three 15-year-olds born in 2003.

The USA will begin its U-17 Women’s World Cup on Nov. 14 against Cameroon and will face 2016 U-17 Women’s World Cup champion Korea DPR on Nov. 17 before finishing group play against Germany on Nov. 21.

The USA’s first two games will be played at Estadio Alberto Suppici in Colonia del Sacramento and the Germany match will take place at Estadio Charrúa in the capital of Montevideo. The third tournament venue is Estadio Domingo Burgueño Miguel in Maldonado. All three venues are on the southwest coast of Uruguay.

The 16 teams that will participate in the sixth U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup are host Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia from South America, the USA, Mexico and Canada from Concacaf, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa from Africa, Korea Republic, Korea DPR and Japan from Asia, Finland, Germany and Spain from Europe, and New Zealand from Oceania.
