June 24, 2016

The event hosted at RYSA’s beautiful facility happened to fall on one of the hottest days of the year. Although the temperature was high, the boys at the event treated all of the coaches in attendance to a great show. Talent was high throughout the group, so selecting a Best XI was a tough task. Every player at the event has great potential to play at the next level. Here are the ones who caught our eye.

GK Eric Nunez, Concorde Fire SC (2018): Nunez is a quick and agile keeper. He has great hands and is a very good shot stopper. His communication skills are excellent, showed fantastic feet and he is great at keeping possession and playing out of the back. Nunez was one of the standout players from the showcase.

D Connor Stevens, Gulf Coast Texans (2017): Stevens is a very versatile player, willing to play on either the right or left side of the field. He will work up and down the field, not only creating scoring opportunities for his team but also recovering back for his center backs. He was one of the hardest workers of the day.

D Michael Drbul, St. Louis Scott Gallagher (2018): Drubl can play anywhere on the outside of the field, defense or midfield. He has excellent technical skills and works very hard to make runs up the field. Drubl has a lot of potential to bring his game to the next level over the next two years.

D Garren Hayes, Huntsville United FC (2017): Hayes is a very strong and athletic center back. He is a great 1v1 defender and forms a stern in the back line. He has good communication skills and organizes the entire team. Hayes is a confident leader from the back and knows the game very well.

D Colin Kennelly, Rockdale Youth SA (2019): Kennelly has excellent positioning that allows him to read the game very well. He is great at tracking runners and intercepting passes. Kennelly is a young player but consistently showed his strength and mental dexterity throughout the day.

MF Gregory Bennett, Rockdale Youth SA (2017): Bennett was the most athletic player on the day and consistently used it to his advantage. He is not afraid to use his speed and strength and run at players and take them on towards goal. Bennett is incredibly dangerous and continuously made threatening runs forward.

MF Anthony Hroncich, Clearwater Chargers (2019): Hroncich spent the day as a holding midfielder and proved to be a very competent No 6. He has good size and good feet which he combines with great strength. He is a team player and positions himself accordingly to provide options for teammates and to occupy smart space. Hroncich is always thinking ahead of the play, especially in positioning for counter attacks when his team is up the field.

MF Cody Prentiss, South Carolina Battery Academy (2017): Prentiss is a player who loves to be involved in the game as much as possible. He gets forward as much as he can but is also never afraid to make a tackle. He has very good composure on the ball and connects almost all of his passes. To top off great technical ability, Prentiss also has a great attitude and personality.

MF Michael Stockley, Concorde Fire SC (2017): Stockley is very athletic and showed an excellent understanding of the game and soccer IQ. As a center midfielder, he does an excellent job of switching the field and moving the ball forward. Stockley has the talent to be molded into a great 8 or 10 in the center of the pitch. He has the ability to change the tempo of the game and can be great in the right setting.

F Anthony Lee Jr., Rockdale Youth SA (2020): Lee may be small in stature, but is an incredibly smart player. He makes dangerous runs behind the back of the defense to disorganize the defensive line. Lee is always hanging out on the back shoulder of defenders and is ready to make runs in behind. Throughout the day, he also showed a willingness to get back to defend counters and to work for his teammates.

F Tate Seagraves, Rockdale Youth SA (2017): Seagraves is very crafty on the ball. He has good technical skills and is not afraid to take players on 1v1.  He is a true attacker and has a strong desire to run at players and go to goal. Seagraves does not shy away from making a tackle in the attacking third as well.

Honorable Mention

D BJ Tally, Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (2017): Tally is an excellent outside back who is not afraid to play on either side of the field. He has good technical skills with both his left and right. On the defensive side, he is tough and strong when getting in to tackles. Tally has great positioning defensively, but also wants to get forward as much as possible to create scoring opportunities.

MF Tanner Gilliam, Highland Football Club (2018): Gilliam is an incredibly hard worker, both defensively and offensively. He has good technical ability and is a strong on the defensive side of the ball. He worked non-stop throughout the entire day, making runs forward and recovery runs to help his team. If Gilliam can continue to improve his speed of play, he will become a great player at the next level.

MF Leo Bueno, Alpharetta Ambush (2020): Bueno has an attacking mentality that shows immediately. Although he is very young, he has an excellent attacking mind. He is very creative both on and off the ball, with great technical ability to match. Bueno has quick feet and knows how and when to get forward.

MF Dallas Dally, Rockdale Youth SA (2018): Dally is a tall and strong central midfielder. He spent the day as a holding mid and he did an excellent job of both attacking and defending. Dally showed great ability to position himself well to receive the ball and switch the point of attack.

MF Samuel Kueprberg, Rockdale Youth SA (2017): Kueperberg is a team player, always doing what he can to help his teammates. He is very versatile and can play in the back or in the midfield. He is coachable and has an excellent attitude. If Kueperberg continues to add to this technical ability, he will become a quality college-level player.
