There was limited action in the U.S. Development Academy this past weekend but that didn’t diminish the performances of a few key individuals. Here are the highlights from the recent batch of games:

U15/16

Arsenal FC knocked off the Irvine Strikers 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a goal in the 62nd minute from Eduardo Quezada. Goalkeeper Anthony Perez, who just blanked Pateadores last weekend, pitched yet another shutout. Arsenal is playing good soccer and has won five in a row.

In another nice goalkeeping effort, Joshua Slepicka kept CASL Chelsea FC off the scoreboard Saturday to earn a 0-0 draw for the AFC Lightning. It was a timely effort for a group that has yet to win a divisional game so far this season.

Alec Rotunda scored the game’s only goal in the 62nd minute as Greeensboro Youth Soccer knocked off AFC Lightning on Sunday. Rotunda is tied for the team lead in goals scored along with midfielder Cameron Owens.

Ryan Zinkhan netted two goals to lead the Richmond Strikers to a sound 4-1 victory over Virgina Rush AJ Auxerre on Sunday. Zinkhan, a speedy technically sound attacker with power on the dribble, has put in nine goals so far this season.

U17/18

Martin Ontiveros produced two goals including the go-ahead score in the 54th minute to spark IMG Soccer Academy to a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Fire. The Fire were led by two goals from Lucas Ade, who pulled his team out of a 2-0 deficit in the first half.

Goalkeepers Davis Griffin and Ethan hall combined on a shutout for CASL Chelsea FC which took down AFC Lightning 2-0 on Saturday. Matthew Wescoe and Nader Jaibat recorded goals in the win.
