Boston College men draw with Clemson

Junior forward Edvin Worley blasted a rebound with his right foot past Clemson goalkeeper Cody Mizell in the 69th minute to tie the score and the 17th-ranked Eagles and Tigers played to a 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference tie before 2,142 fans at Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C., on Friday night.
Down one goal, which Clemson scored in the eighth minute of the match, Boston College sophomore Kyle Bekker connected with classmate Kevin Mejia on a long cross. Mejia’s header on net was saved by the outstretched left hand of Mizell. Worley connected on the rebound with a hard right-footed kick for his third goal of the season at 68:08.
Just 1:06 after Worley’s tying score, junior defender Patrick Chin was issued his second yellow card of the match and the Eagles played the final 40:46 of combined regulation and sudden-victory overtime down one man.
The host Tigers outshot the Eagles, 11-10, in the match.
Offensively, Bekker (four shots) and Worley (four shots) combined to register eight of the team’s 10 shots. Mejia and sophomore Charlie Rugg accounted for one shot apiece.
Clemson scored its lone goal of the match early. Freshman forward K.C. Onyeador tallied his first collegiate goal at 7:52. Wes Nelson and Nick Burton assisted on the score.
The teams played scoreless soccer for the next 60 minutes, 16 seconds, before Bekker, Mejia and Worley connected for the tying score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Luthy recorded four saves in the tying effort. Mizell tallied five saves for the Tigers.
Next, Boston College will host non-conference opponent Holy Cross on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
