Cordero and Oughton Named First-Team All-Conference USA
Frey and Patsey Earn C-USA All-Freshman Team Honors

EL PASO, Texas –
On the eve of the 2012 Conference USA Women’sSoccer Championship, East Carolina (10-6-3. 6-2-3) had four players named to the All C-USA squads according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday. Redshirt junior Christiane Cordero (GK) and senior Hali Oughton (D) have been named to the first-team, while rookies Kendall Frey (F) and Haley Patsey (D) were tabbed as All-Freshman Team selections.

For Cordero and Oughton it’s their first everall-conference selections and just the third time in school history that two Pirates have garnered first-team honors in the same season (Meghan McCallion and Penny Perrott in 2003; Amber Campbell and Madison Keller in 2008). ECU’s four selections marks the eighth consecutive season the Pirates have had at least three players on the All C-USA Teams.

Cordero, who was recently named College Sports Madness C-USA Defensive Player-of-the-Year, led C-USA with 10 shutouts tying an ECU single-season record matching Campbell’s feat from the 2007 season. She posted a 1.03 goals against average (20 goals), recorded 85 saves (.810 save percentage) and logged 1,752 minutes in the net.

The Valencia, Calif. native was a three-time C-USA Player-of-the-Week selection, was named College Sports Madness Player-of-the-Week on Sept. 24 and garnered National Player-of-the-Week accolades on Oct. 9 from Soccer News Net. In league play, she helped the Pirates earn the No. 4 seed in the C-USA Championships posting a league-best eight shutouts where she allowed seven goals in 11 matches (0.61 GAA) and recorded 61 saves (.897 percentage) in 1,028 minutes.

Oughton was a key member of the Pirates’ defense in 2012 playing every minute in 17-of-19 matches (1,744). The Redondo Beach, Calif. native was a part of all 10 shutouts and scored three goals, two of which were game-winning strikes. Against Davidson, she collected a career-best three points netting the game-winner in the fifth minute of play off a corner kick. She later added her lone assist of the season in the 59th minute serving a pass to fellow classmate Chrissy Gratz in the 3-0 shutout. Oughton also scored at Houston in a 3-0 victory and at Southern Miss in the 12th minute on a penalty kick.

Frey earned all-freshman team honors after starting 16-of-19 games logging nearly 1,200 minutes on the pitch. The Chester Springs, Fla. native scored a pair of goals, both game-winners at Old Dominion (Aug. 22) and against Colorado College (Sept. 23). She recorded her lone assist of the year at Southern Miss starting a scoring run in the 61st minute on Caty Butler’s goal.

Patsey was another mainstay in the Pirates backfield in 2012 having started all 19 games where she played every minute on the pitch in 15 contests. The Cary, N.C. native played the fifth-most minutes on the team (1,727) including three-straight games with 110 minutes. She recorded just one shot on the year at ODU, but was a main part of the Pirates league-leading eight shutouts in conference action.

The Pirates will take on fifth-seed Tulsa (11-5-3) in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championships on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
