CSU Bakersfield Remains Unbeaten; Roadrunners defeat Sacramento State 3-0
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield remained unbeaten as the Roadrunners (6-0-4, 2-0 MPSF) defeated Sacramento State (5-4-1, 1-1 MPSF) 3-0 in league action Friday night.
Kory Kindle (Jr., Ventura, Calif., Ventura HS) got the Roadrunners on the board when he dribbled through the Hornets’ defense and connected on a shot on the near post at 19:00. Lucas Dall’Orso (Fr., Orange County, Calif., JSerra Catholic HS) converted a free kick from just outside the goalkeeper’s box in the 57th minute to give CSUB a two-goal advantage.
A Jesus Sanchez (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Castle Park HS) long pass found Gyasi Zardes (R-So., Hawthorne, Calif., Leutzinger HS) who took advantage and scored his 12th goal of the year in the 67th minute. Zardes reset his own CSUB Division I record for most shots in a match with 11 (the old mark was nine, set on two occasions). He tied Ayman Hamid (vs. Cal Poly Pomona, 9/28/94) for the overall school mark.
The Roadrunners outshot Sacramento State 21-13. CSUB goalies Eric Shannon (Jr., Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) and Anthony Perez (Fr., Fontana, Calif., Bloomington HS) combined on the ‘Runners fifth shutout of the season. The duo made five saves.
CSUB continues its MPSF road swing with a Sunday match at San Jose State beginning at 1 p.m.
