Cyclones Score 2-0 Win Over DePaul

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State soccer team got off its desired start at this weekend’s Minnesota Gold Classic with a 2-0 win over DePaul Friday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

Iowa State (5-2 overall, 0-0 Big 12 Conference) received goals from junior Jennifer Dominguez (5:43 into the match) and sophomore Hayley Womack (80:00 minutes into the match).

Dominguez’s goal was her team-leading fourth of the season and moved her into the top spot on the squad’s point list with eight. Sophomore Ashley Johnson provided the assist on the Dominguez goal. Womack’s goal was her first of the 2012 campaign and came via a breakaway. Johnson has recorded four points over the past two games, the lone matches she has started this season.

Iowa State posted its fourth shutout of the campaign in the win.  Junior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe played the full 90 minutes and collected eight saves.  Jobe recorded her third shutout of the season and saw her season record improve to 5-2.

DePaul (4-2-1) held a 13-11 shots advantage in the match. The Blue Demons had four corner kicks to the Cyclones’ one.

The Cyclones have found their offensive stride in recent matches. Iowa State is on a streak of outscoring the opposition 10-1.

The Cyclones face No. 20 San Diego State Sunday at 10:30 a.m. CT at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
