DAYTON, Ohio - The RV/23 University of Dayton men’s soccer team (6-1) beat IPFW (0-7) 4-1 on Sunday at Baujan Field.

Graduate student Eddie Jones, freshman Christopher Lenning, freshman Maik Schoonderwoerd and senior Daniel Berko each scored in the match.

“We came out and dictated the pace of play in the game. We scored early and had a good first half,” Currier said. “Getting a victory and having a great weekend with two wins, you couldn’t ask for much more than that.”

Freshman goalkeeper Chris Froschauer made three saves against the Mastodons. Dayton held a 26-10 margin on shots and a 15-4 edge on shots on goal.

UD opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a strike by Eddie Jones, after receiving a through ball from Brian Bates to open the scoring 1-0.

Dayton poured on the pressure off of its set pieces in the match. The Flyers added their second goal of the match on Lenning’s finish, which came from Evan McCreary’s header on Keller’s corner kick. It was Lenning’s first collegiate goal.

“We were very dangerous on set pieces,” Currier said. “We had a lot of big guys in the box. It was good to see some of our defenders score today.”

Another Flyer tallied his first collegiate goal thanks another Keller corner kick in the 30th minute. Keller booted the ball into Schoonderwoerd, who one-touched the ball past the keeper near post for a 3-0 lead in the first half.

“I scored my first goal and that was good personally,” Schoonderwoer said. “Our main objective was to win today. Now we have to focus on SIUE next weekend. They are a Top 25 opponent, so we have to get better, but overall we can be satisfied [with] today.”

Berko tallied his fifth goal of the year in the 66th minute. Quick passing from sophomores David Abidor and Greg Enstone allowed Berko to use his speed and burst around the defenders to score on the IPFW keeper.

IPFW’s Corey Tom scored in the 76th minute, but the Flyers were able to hold off the Mastodons for a 4-1 victory.

The Flyers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 at No. 22 SIUE at 8 p.m. ET.
