Dayton Men's Soccer thumps La Salle, 5-0

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team defeated the La Salle Explorers 5-0 on Saturday night at Baujan Field.

The Flyers move to 8-4-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference while La Salle falls to 5-8-2 and 1-3-1.

 

KEY STATS

Dayton outshot La Salle 19-8 in the contest and put 10 on target.

The Flyers also had a 13-5 corner kick advantage.

In the team’s last three home games, the Flyers have outscored their opponents 15-0.

With the win, Dayton sits atop the Atlantic 10 standings.

Goalkeeper Justin Saliba made four saves in his fourth shutout of the season.

Senior Amass Amankona led the team with five shots, four on target, and a hat trick.

 

DAYTON GOALS

36th Minute: Amankona’s (7th goal of season) shot found the lower left corner of the net. Fellow senior Alex Amankwaah made the initial cross into the box, and senior Maik Schoonderwoerd flicked the ball to Amankona near the six yard box. (Dayton, 1, La Salle 0)

39th Minute: Amankona (8th goal of season) found the back of the net again. Amankwaah took a corner kick and placed the ball on the near side of the goal. Amankona was able to get a touch on the ball to slide it past the keeper. (Dayton, 2, La Salle 0)

52nd Minute: Amankwaah’s (1st goal of season) corner kick was untouched on its way into the back of the net. (Dayton 3, La Salle 0)

62nd Minute: Amankona (9th goal of season) scored his third goal of the match with a header to the right side of the net. Amankwaah played in the cross to Amankona on the left side of the field. (Dayton 4, La Salle 0)

87th Minute: Sophomore Nick Hagenkord scored his first goal on the cross from junior James Haupt, driving it low and past the keeper. (Dayton 5, La Salle 0)
