FAU Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener

<p><strong>Boca Raton, FL - </strong>The Florida Atlantic University women&rsquo;s soccer team fell 1-0 in a hard-fought double overtime match to defending co-Atlantic Sun Conference champion Jacksonville University on Friday at the FAU Soccer Stadium.&nbsp; It was the Owls&rsquo; season opener and first athletic event in the 2012-13 calendar season.</p> <p>The Owls will travel to the FGCU Embassy Suites Classic to battle Illinois State University on Friday, August 24 and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sunday, August 26.</p> <p>Jacksonville&rsquo;s Marie Weckhurst scored the match&rsquo;s only goal with just over one minute remaining in the extra time.&nbsp; The goal occurred on a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box flicked just inside the right post.</p> <p>FAU held a 5-4 shot advantage in the extra minutes, including two shots by freshman midfielder Claire Emslie in the first 10-minute frame.</p> <p>Senior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes made seven saves in net.</p> <p>Individually, Emslie paced the offensive attack with four shots.&nbsp; Junior midfielder Marisa Russo tallied two shots.&nbsp; Junior forward Brittney Nash, sophomore defender Olivia MBala, junior midfielder Lindsey Rice and freshmen Gabriella Sosa and Haleigh Stremanos each had one shot in the match.</p> <p>The season opener was delayed two hours by weather in the Boca Raton area.</p>
