Five First-Half Goals Lift Kats Past NCCC
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Sept. 20 - The Erie Community College men's soccer team scored twice in the first 15 minutes and never looked back in a 6-2 win Thursday over Niagara County CC in Region III action.
The Kats, now 4-4, got on the board when freshman Mark Tellgren (Springville, N.Y./Springville) scored in the 13th minute and classmate Yony Guardado (Larose, La./South Lafourche) added a goal two minutes later. Guardado then gave the Kats a 3-0 lead six minutes later. Freshman Mohamad Hamade (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) scored with 20 minutes left in the half with Tellgren getting an assist. Sophomore Phil Karlstrom (Silver Creek, N.Y./Silver Creek) converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute.
Karlstrom added a goal in the second half before NCCC's Scott Fala scored twice in the game's final eight minutes.
ECC will play Jefferson CC at 3 p.m. Saturday in Watertown, N.Y.
