WASHINGTON – The George Washington women’s soccer team used a season-high scoring attack to defeat Saint Louis, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon in the squad’s season finale and Senior Day match.

It marks the Colonials’ first-ever victory over the Billikens (5-9-4, 3-4-2 A-10) in six meetings between the two programs, as well as GW’s first Atlantic 10 win of the season. The Buff and Blue close the year with an overall record of 5-12-1 and a 1-8-0 conference mark in head coach Sarah Barnes’ first year at the helm of the program.

“We finished on goal today and that is what we have been working on all season – getting the ball in the net,” said Coach Barnes. “I’m so happy we could get this win for our seniors and close the season on a high note.”

Senior Molly Bruh tallied three points on a goal and an assist, while classmate Adriana Moya, sophomore Nicole Belfonti and junior Alex Neal all netted goals. The Colonials' four goals were their most since Sept. 4, 2011 when they defeated Robert Morris, 5-1.

Belfonti put GW on the scoreboard first at 25:26 with her first career goal. Bruh sent a long pass up the middle of the field and Belfonti collected the ball, dodged a Saint Louis defender and buried the shot into the right side of the net.

Moya gave GW a two-goal advantage less than six minutes later when she settled a cross from freshman Kristi Abbate and fired a bullet into the top left corner of the goal. Bruh extended the lead to 3-0 at 34:42 on an shot from 30-yards out that deflected off the crossbar and bounced into the goal.

Sophomore Taylor Katz connected with Neal with 24 seconds remaining in the first half for GW’s fourth and final goal. Katz sent a cross from the left side and Neal pushed it into the right side of the goal and the Colonials took a 4-0 lead into the break.

The Billikens found the back of the net at 59:30 for the lone score of the second stanza. SLU out-shot GW, 16-11, overall and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fasano made six saves on the afternoon for GW and wrapped her rookie campaign with a record of 5-9-1.

Prior to Sunday’s match the Colonials honored Bruh, Moya and fellow seniors Samie Cloutier and Kayley Sullivan.
