Holy Cross Ties Colgate, 1-1

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior Josh Cintas (San Diego, Calif.) netted his team-best fifth goal of the season as the Holy Cross men's soccer team tied Colgate, 1-1, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at Van Doren Field. With the tie, the Crusaders are now 2-7-1 overall (1-1-1 PL), while the Raiders are 3-4-5 overall (1-1-1 PL).

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead at 18:03 when Cintas scored his sixth career goal as freshman Andrew Rhodes (St. Louis, Mo.) posted an assist. At 33:15, the Raiders tied the contest at 1-1 when Mike Reidy found the back of the net on a penalty kick. Colgate outshot Holy Cross, 6-4, in the first half as the Raiders took three shots on goal and the Crusaders had one.

Colgate goalie Liam Stapleton made a save on a shot by freshman Eddie Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) at 74:17, while Viscount had a shot hit the post at 82:12. Junior Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.) also had a shot saved by Stapleton at 89:42. Freshman goalie Kevin Wright (McKinney, Texas) made two saves for the second half to keep the Raiders from scoring their second goal of the game.

Wright also made two saves to keep the game tied in the first overtime period. The Crusaders took one shot on goal in the second overtime with a shot from freshman Patrick Buckley (Basking Ridge, N.J.) saved by Stapleton at 108:48. Wright made two saves.

Wright posted a total of eight saves, while Stapleton tallied three. Colgate outshot Holy Cross, 22-13, while the Raiders took nine shots on goal and the Crusaders had four. The Raiders took nine corner kicks and the Crusaders posted four.

The Crusaders return to action when they host Patriot League opponent Bucknell at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2:00 p.m.
