WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Incarnate Word's Amber Guenther tapped in a redirected cross with 12 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 win over Midwestern State Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.

The win was the fifth straight for UIW, which improved to 7-5 on the season and to an LSC leading 7-3 in Lone Star Conference play.

The snake bitten Mustangs fell to 3-8-3 on the season and to 3-4-3 in conference play. It was MSU's seventh overtime contest of the season and the second time it was beaten in the final seconds of the first overtime on its home turf.

Midwestern, which dropped to 0-5-1 at home, returns to action Sunday afternoon against Angelo State at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Mustangs took advantage of a restart to claim first blood in the 55th minute. Sophomore forward Payton Fookes drilled a cross into the box from the left week that was driven in on an Ashley Cottrell header. It was Cottrell's team-best fifth goal of the season and her fourth goal in the last three matches.

The lead lasted all of 18 seconds as Incarnate Word retaliated with an unassisted goal by Sarah Johnson.

Incarnate Word controlled the edge in the run of play with 15 shots to MSU's eight including a 7-2 margin in shots on goal.
