Jaspers Take Down DSU, 2-0
(Riverdale, N.Y.) – In the midst of a five-game road swing, the Delaware State women’s soccer team (0-5) fought all the way until the final buzzer sounded, yet the Manhattan Jaspers (3-5) were able to pull out a 2-0 win Monday afternoon over the Hornets.
In the first half, no score, Manhattan’s Martine Diamond (3), who coming in today’s match was the team’s leader in assists, found midfielder/forward Aislinn Mcllvenny (2) for the goal during the 15th minute.
Later in the period, during 27th minute, Diamond (4) added another assist to her night by feeding forward Janie Schlauder (3) for score to put up the Jaspers up 2-0.
At intermission, Manhattan owned the shot count by tallying 12 attempts compared to DSU’s two. In the net, meanwhile, junior Katelyn Koslosky (0-5) recorded two stops in an effort to keep it a two score deficit for the Hornets.
Throughout the second stanza, the Hornets defense held steady while keeping Manhattan’s offensive attack under control, despite the Jaspers recording seven shots.
Nevertheless, DSU’s offense could not get over the hump as Manhattan was able to hold on for the 2-0 victory.
At game’s end, the Hornets finished with five shot attempts, whereas Koslosky finished with a game-high five saves. On the other hand, Manhattan’s Kristen Skonieczny (3-3) totaled two stops.
Coming up, the Hornets will be back in action this Thursday against St. Peter’s at 4 p.m.
