Scouting Hofstra:  For the second straight game, JMU takes on an undefeated team, as the Pride brings a 4-0-1 record to Harrisonburg.
     It's the CAA opener for both teams.
     Hofstra was picked by the CAA coaches to finish tied for eighth in the 11-team league. 

The Series with Hofstra:  Hofstra leads the series 8-5-1 and beat the Dukes 3-0 last season in Hempstead.  The Pride has won eight of the last 10 meetings with JMU and has held the Dukes scoreless in the last two meetings.

Scouting Virginia Commonwealth:  JMU has the potential to face an unbeaten team for the third game in a row, as the Rams take a 3-0-2 overall record into a Sept. 14 game at Florida Gulf Coast before traveling to JMU.
     VCU, which joined the Atlantic 10 for the 2012-13 season, was picked by the A-10 coaches to finish third in the 16-team league.  The Rams were members of JMU's league, the CAA, from 1995-2012.

The Series with Virginia Commonwealth:  JMU leads the series 20-13-4 but has beaten the Rams only once in the last five meetings (1-3-1 record).  Five of the last seven meetings were decided by a single goal and a sixth ended in a tie. Since 2001 VCU holds an 8-4-1 lead in the series.

Dukes End UNC Record Streak, Tie JMU Streak Record:  JMU's 1-0 win over defending NCAA champion North Carolina ended one unbeaten streak and extended another.
     The loss ended the Tar Heels' school-record 16-game (14-0-2) unbeaten streak that began with an Oct. 21, 2011, win over Maryland.
     JMU's victory put the Dukes' home unbeaten streak at 14 games, tying the school record set over the 2003-04 seasons (13-0-1).
      The Dukes' current streak (12-0-2) began with a Sept. 2, 2011, win over Florida Atlantic.  JMU did not lose at home in 2011 (11-0-1), and the Dukes have a 2-0-1 home record in 2012.

UNC Game Draws 1,531:  In the first season of competition at University Park, JMU drew a facility-record 1,531 fans for the Sept. 11 game against defending NCAA champion North Carolina.
     Since attendance figures have been kept for regular-season games (1997), the JMU men's soccer team has drawn more than 1,000 fans on seven occasions.

JMU Alum Plays for Jamaica:  Former JMU player Joel Senior (JMU '11) saw playing time in Jamaica's 2-1 Sept. 7 win over the U.S. Men’s National Team.
     The former Dukes midfielder entered the match in the 83rd minute.
     The game, played at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, was part of the Group A Semifinal Round of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
     Senior was a two-year starter for the Dukes in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.  He earned All-CAA Third Team honors in 2009.

Former Dukes Among Stats Leaders in NASL:  Former JMU players Nick Zimmerman (JMU '09) and Matt Glaeser (2003-05) are among the statistical leaders in the North American Soccer League.
     Zimmerman, a second-year Carolina RailHawks forward, ranks second in the league in goals with 15 and third in minutes played (2,233) (games through Sept. 12).
     Glaeser, a third-year goalkeeper for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, has the second-most saves (98) among NASL goalies.
     With two weeks remaining in NASL regular-season play, both Carolina and Fort Lauderdale have clinched playoff berths.
     Zimmerman was a four-year midfield starter at JMU.  He earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as a senior in 2008 and was a two-time All-CAA selection (2007, 2008).  He previously played for the New York Red Bulls (2009) and Philadelphia Union (2010) of Major League Soccer.
     Glaeser was a reserve goalkeeper at JMU for three seasons (2003-05).  He finished his collegiate career at Hartford, where he was the America East Conference and NSCAA Northeast Region Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007.

Five Opponents Projected for NCAA Field:  Five JMU opponents are projected to be among the 48 teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament field, according to the website TopDrawerSoccer.com.  The weekly rankings are a running attempt to project the postseason NCAA Tournament qualifiers, including every automatic conference berth. The Week 4 rankings were released Sept. 10.
