JMU Women's Coach David Lombardo Receives Contract Extension
HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 13, 2011 -- JMU Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne has announced the extension of women's soccer coach David Lombardo's contract through the 2014 season.
Lombardo has guided the Dukes to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three in the past four seasons, and the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championship.
"I'm excited and grateful that the administration continues to have the faith and trust that we're doing the right things in the program," said Lombardo, who ranks sixth among the winningest active coaches in NCAA Division I.
In his 22nd season at JMU, Lombardo is the only coach in the history of the Dukes' women's soccer program. He has a JMU record of 266-164-31 and a career record of 344-199-39.
Under Lombardo the Dukes have set a high standard of achievement with 10 NCAA tournament berths (1995-99, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010) in the last 16 years.
In NCAA play JMU has advanced to the round of 16 three times (1995, 1996, 2008) and has played in the round of 32 six times (1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2007, 2010).
The team's 2010 CAA title was the third in the program's history. Lombardo's 1995 and 2002 teams also won conference championships.
