BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team started strong to defeat the University of North Georgia. In their second home game of the season, the Tornado showed their offensive firepower early in route to their 3-0 win. 

King started the game with a chip on their shoulder due to last year's loss to North Georgia. In the seventh minute, the Tornado opened the shooting when Eli Carrascohit a ball wide of the net. Chris Hicks delivered another shot in the ninth minute andRyan Murphy followed with another shortly after.

In the 13th minute, Murphy took a pass across the middle of the box from Kendale Liburd and tapped it into the back of the net to make the score King 1, North Georgia 0.

Just eight minutes later, King delivered again. This time, Hicks ripped a shot from the top of the box beating Diego Casillas, the Nighthawks keeper. Hicks, with his third goal of the season, made the score 2-0.

Cameron Sauro came up big in the 34th minute. An attacker from North Georgia found himself in the middle of the box with the ball, ripped a shot and Sauro made a great save to keep the Nighthawks scoreless. In the 42nd minute, he made another save to bring the game into the half with King leading.

Starting fast was the theme of the game for the Tornado. Five minutes into the second half, Carrasco posted the first goal of his career. Carrasco was carrying the ball around mid-field, beat the defender and went one-on-one with the keeper. As he got to the top of the box, with the keeper charging, Carrasco sent a shot to the bottom right corner of the net to make the score King 3, North Georgia 0.

It appeared to be easy cruising from there on out for King. However, in the 70th minute the Nighthawks had a great chance. Eric Carrion hit a shot toward the upper 90 and ricocheted off the post keeping North Georgia scoreless.

The final whistle blew and King earned their third win of the season. Behind the strong play of the defense, led by Ryan Cobain, keepers Sauro and Kari Sveinnson recorded a clean sheet.

King outshot North Georgia 13 to six; however, the Nighthawks had four corner kicks to the Tornado's three.

The Tornado returns to action October 1 at 3:00 p.m. against Conference Carolinas opponent Belmont Abbey at Parks Field.
