FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 2-0 women’s soccer shutout victory past the visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology from the Great West Conference Sunday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.  Senior captain Kacie Oliver|Portsmouth, R.I. (Portsmouth) and sophomore Kelsey Pardue|Henrico (Hermitage) each scored goals for the Lancers (5-6-3) against the visiting Highlanders (2-10-0), and junior keeper Kyra Byron|Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) earned her fourth shutout this season.  Longwood will enjoy Fall Break at the University on Monday and Tuesday before playing again on Saturday, October 15, hosting Cleveland State University (8-5-1) of the Horizon League at the Athletics Complex in Farmville beginning at 1 p.m.
    

Longwood took control of the match from the start against NJIT, and went ahead 1-0 in the 19th minute when Oliver took a nice through ball in the box from Pardue and finished the play into the net at 18:53.  The Lancers enjoyed a 5-1 advantage in shots en route to leading 1-0 at the intermission.  Longwood increased the margin to 2-0 in the 56th minute when Pardue was fed another nice ball in the box from junior Nikki Glisson|Mechanicsville (Hanover) and beat the keeper at 55:50.  The hosts finished the final 45 minutes with an 8-3 advantage in shots, and were never seriously threatened by the visitors.  Oliver and Pardue each have five goals on the season to lead the Lancers, while Pardue adds four assists and Glisson has three assists.
  

 “This is a good way to start our fall break,” said 18th-year head coach Todd Dyer ‘93.  “Knowing first-hand how hard it is to score goals and win games, we really can appreciate this result.  The whole team played hard in defense and possession, and once again, Kacie and Kelsey came through on the finishing end of things.”
    

Longwood finished the contest with a 13-4 advantage in shots, including 8-2 on goal, and the Lancers had a 5-1 margin on corner kicks.  Pardue registered two shots, both on goal, while redshirt-freshman Rachel Powers|Glen Allen (Deep Run) and freshman Kelsey McDonald|Kennett Square, Pa. (Unionville) each had two shots as well, each with one on goal.  Byron played the duration in front of the net with two saves to preserve the shutout.
    

Gechi Ukaegu and Amanda Redden each had one shot on goal for NJIT, while Amanda Murray played the duration in goal for the Highlanders with six saves.
    

Longwood continues to lead the all-time series against NJIT at 4-0-1.
