McKenzie Meehan Notches GWG vs. Northeastern
Boston College defeated Northeastern, 2-1, in dramatic fashion as McKenzie Meehan scored off a header in the second overtime to seal the win.
BC is now 7-0-1, while Northeastern dropped to 3-4-1.
The Eagles found themselves down 1-0 in the 62nd minute when Northeastern was awarded a penalty kick. Aftre the Huskies scored, BC's offense went to a non-stop attack.
It was not until the final seconds of regulation when senior Andrea O'Brien deflected a long ball in the box by Lauren Berman into the goal. With the game tied at 1-1, the two teams were set to go into overtime.
In the first overtime it was BC's goalkeeper Alexis Bryant who came up big. In the final minute of play, Bryant made two kick saves as the Eagles defense broke down.
Just a minute into the second stanza, Hayley Dowd was dropped outside the box to the right of the NU goalkeeper. Jenna Bike took the free kick and just pooched it to the far post, where McKenzie Meehan headed it to the far post for the win.
BC recorded 17 corners and 23 shots (10 on goal) The Eagles held Northeastern to one corner kick and nine shots, just five on goal.
