Baltimore- UMBC scored a pair of second half goals, including the 31^st of senior Andrew Bulls’ (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) career as the host Retrievers defeated New Hampshire, 2-0, in an America East Conference match played before 2,463 fans and a Fox Soccer national television audience at Retriever Soccer Park.

UMBC (7-3-3, 4-0-0) extended its unbeaten streak to five and improved to 4-0-0 for the first time in nine America East Conference seasons. The Wildcats fell to 5-7-1, 1-2-1. 

UMBC senior goalkeeper Dan Louisignau (Wilmington, Del.) made a pair of saves and posted his seventh shutout of the season and the squad’s fourth in a row. The Retrievers have not allowed a goal in 408 minutes of action.

Bulls was named UMBC’s America East Player of the Game, while UNH freshman netminder Travis Worra earned the honor for the visitors.

After a scoreless first half, the Retrievers got on the board 1:57 into the second stanza on an own goal. UMBC junior midfielder Milo Kapor (Toronto,Ont.) was deep in the box and attempted to pass the ball back to a teammate, but the ball struck Wildcat defender Alex Hussein at the six-yard line and floated  beyond Worra and into the right corner of the cage.

The goal snapped a string of 265 minutes of scoreless soccer between the two teams after a pair of 0-0 double overtime draws in 2010. UMBC earned the America East title by advancing on penalty kicks, 5-4, over UNH on the same field last November.

Bulls scored a beautiful insurance goal in the 82^nd minute to seal the victory. Sophomore forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) hit a long pass from just inside the midfield stripe on the right wing and Bulls collected the ball on the left edge of the box 25 yards from the goal. He had two defenders surrounding him, but beat one to the inside and blasted a 16-yard bullet into the upper third of the net.

Bulls led all players with six shots, including five on goal, for the contest. He scored for the third time this season and UMBC is 3-0-0 when he hits the net. UMBC outshot UNH, 13-11 and Worra made seven saves.

The win by UMBC evened the all-time series at 4-4-3.

The Retrievers will host Penn State at Retriever Soccer Park on Wednesday before returning to league play at Hartford on Oct. 22.
