STORRS, Conn.- Senior midfielder Brad Jacobson (Larchmont, N.Y.) used a goal with five seconds remaining in regulation to tie the Dartmouth men's soccer team with No. 4 UConn, but it wasn't enough as the Huskies scored four minutes into overtime to win a thriller, 2-1, in Storrs on Friday night.

Trailing 1-0 for the majority of the second half, the Big Green used a late surge to tie the game up. Jacobson, a reserve, met a ball played from sophomore midfielder Colin Heffron (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) across the left side and headed it into the inside left post from eight yards out, to send the game into overtime.

The No. 4 Huskies showcased their offensive powers just minutes into the overtime session. The Huskies broke through the Dartmouth backline and used a one-time shot from leading scorer Mamadou Diof to take the sudden death victory.

UConn (2-0-0) ended 54 minutes of scoreless soccer with a goal from Allando Matheson in the 55th minute of action. The goal came on a set piece as Allando headed the ball into the net from a free kick outside of the Dartmouth box.

Jacobson lead the way for the Big Green offense off the bench, posting a team-best three shots, two on goal, while junior goalkeeper Noah Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa) made four saves in the loss.

Dartmouth (0-1-0) battled with the Huskies for the majority of the contest, sending the game into halftime deadlocked at 0-0, marking the second consecutive game the Huskies have trailed at halftime.

UConn held a 16-9 shots advantage although the Big Green outshot the Huskies, 7-5, in the second half. The Huskies also earned six corner kicks on the night, while holding Dartmouth to just three corner kick opportunities.

Dartmouth battled the Huskies from the outset. Senior midfielder Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Township, Mich.) looked as if he had the go-ahead goal early in the contest, forcing UConn goalkeeper, Andre Blake, to make the first save of the game at the 13:34 mark.

UConn wouldn't be deterred and rattled of four consecutive shots forcing Cohen to make back-to-back saves.  The Huskies had one more chance late in the half on a shot from Carlos Alvarez, which hit the post, keeping the scoresheet clean heading into the second frame.

The Big Green return to Hanover to kick off the 2012 home slate on Sunday (Sept. 3) when they host Holy Cross at 3:00 p.m. at Burnham Field.
