Nebraska Sizzles in Second Half

West Lafayette, Ind. - After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, four second-half goals from the 24th-ranked Nebraska soccer team enabled the Huskers to remain atop the Big Ten standings with a 4-0 road victory against a streaking Purdue squad on Friday night. Four different members of the Scarlet and Cream scored in the match as Nebraska got back to its winning ways.
 
Senior Jordan Jackson registered a five-point performance in the match with a goal and three assists. It marks the fifth time in Jackson's career in which she has amassed five points in one match. Jackson's 31st career tally moves the senior into eighth place alone among all-time goal scorers at Nebraska.
 
NU has won eight of its last nine matches and move to 5-1-0 in the conference, including an impressive 3-0-0 on the road in Big Ten play. The Huskers scored four goals on the road in league play for the first time in two years. The shutout victory is also the fourth of the year for Nebraska, the most since 2010.
 
The Huskers were highly efficient on offense putting nine of its 13 shot attempts on target. Nebraska goalkeeper Emma Stevens matched her season-high with seven saves in her seventh career shutout. Stevens is now just six saves shy of former Husker keeper Erin Miller (239) for the all-time mark.
 
Both squads entered the intermission scoreless as each team put up six shot attempts, while NU owned a 3-1 shots on goal edge. The Huskers and Boilermakers also notched three corner kick attempts apiece, while NU committed five fouls to Purdue's four.
 
Nebraska came out of the break with a sense of urgency that resulted in the go-ahead score at the 47th minute on a point-blank header by junior Mayme Conroy for her sixth goal of the year and 21st career tally. The ball deflected off Boilermaker keeper Clara Kridler after a great right-to-left cross from Jackson as Conroy finished it off at the near post for the 1-0 lead. The score broke Purdue's 329 consecutive minute shutout streak.
 
Just minutes later, sophomore Katie Kraeutner came through in a big spot once again off a run into the middle of the box on a pass from Jackson, calmly faked the defender and finished in the lower corner to push the NU lead to 2-0. Kraeutner's goal at the 53:53 mark was her fifth of 2013 and seventh career as Nebraska was off and running.
 
The Huskers were very opportunistic in the second half as Jackson gave NU a commanding 3-0 lead in the 63rd minute. Jackson recorded her fifth of the year when she cleaned up a deflection off a set piece and put it inside the right post with Jaycie Johnson earning the assist.
 
In the 72nd minute, the Huskers did not let up as Caroline Gray notched her first goal of the year when Jackson found Gray and slotted the ball inside the left post to increase the Nebraska lead to 4-0.
 
Nebraska soccer will finish out its regular-season road schedule next weekend with visits to No. 20 Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 18 and Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 20
