MILWAUKEE – Mackenzie Schill scored on a header just before halftime and the defense posted its fifth shutout of the year in helping the Milwaukee women's soccer team claim a 1-0 decision over Green Bay on a soggy Wednesday night at Engelmann Stadium.
 
The Panthers (10-1, 3-0 Horizon League) dominated the contest against the Phoenix (6-5-1, 0-2-1 Horizon League), but had to settle for the lone goal on the evening despite 64 percent possession and a large shot advantage.
 
"I thought we managed the conditions and game well," head coach Troy Fabiano said. "We were patient in possession and found good pockets to break them down in. I thought our work rate off the ball and defensively was key to our success tonight."
 
The only goal of the game came at the 40:31 mark, and came following a giveaway. Milwaukee had the ball in its offensive zone, with Gaby Schwartz picking up the loose ball from Green Bay along the left sideline.
 
She sent a perfect serve to the goal front, where Schill was waiting for the header. It went off the post and in for her fourth of the season, giving MKE the well-deserved advantage before intermission.
 
That was Elaina LaMacchia and the defense needed, allowing just three shots on the evening. All three were on target, but resulted in easy saves for LaMacchia to record her third shutout of the campaign and 11^th of her career.
 
Milwaukee ended the contest with an overall shot advantage of 14-to-3, with Natalie Auble (4) and Schill (3) leading the way. Corner kicks were also 5-to-1 in MKE's favor as well.
 
Up next, the Panthers are off until Sunday, heading to Chicago to take on UIC. Game time against the Flames is set for 1 p.m.
